Financial and Credit Analyst
The position reports to the Business Reporting and Financial Lead
Job Overview:
As a Financial Analyst in the Malaysian fixed fibre broadband, you will be a key driver of growth and operational efficiency. You will bridge the gap between Operational drivers and financial performance, providing the data-backed insights needed to navigate a highly competitive market.
Your role involves managing complex understanding of various components of the revenue fixed fibre revenue streams, collection reports and statistics, billing to revenue recognition, including detailed understanding of revenue recognition, MFRS adjustments and other drivers of revenue.
Your role also involve understanding the detail drivers of the variable and fixed costs all the way from the transactional level to GL and P&L level, providing detailed insights on the cost fluctuations and trends.
Your work life:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Work with the Senior Financial Analyst to lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting cycles. Monitor monthly performance against targets and perform detailed variance analysis to articulate the fluctuations in the cost.
- Assist the Senior Financial Analyst to perform timely revenue and cost analysis and preparation of monthly business unit reporting pack.
- Perform ad-hoc cost/benefit and strategic analyses to identify areas for cost optimisation and cost efficiencies.
- Identify, Investigate and make correction on any revenue leakage or losses on timely basis and work with the relevant stakeholders to mitigate future losses.
- Work with Data Team to transform complex data into clear visual dashboards and present actionable insights to senior management and cross-functional teams (Sales, Billing, Customer Service).
- CAPEX / OPEX ROI: Partner with IT and Ops departments to track budget utilisation and perform strategic analyses on budget efficiencies with view to improve the spending ROI.
- Lead evaluation of the financial feasibility of IT Capex budgets (e.g., change CRs, license purchases, system upgrades etc). Calculate Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for multi-million RM investments.
- Revenue Assurance & Margin Analysis: Analyze Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and churn rates. Monitor the profitability of bundled offerings (Voice + Data + value added services). Perform detailed analyses to provide insights on ARPU fluctuations and areas for improvements.
- Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist in preparing financial submissions for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Ensure compliance with MFRS 15 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and MFRS 16 (Leases), particularly for in contract broadband customers.
- Operational Efficiency: Identify cost-saving opportunities in network charges, customer acquisition costs (CAC) and fixed /variable cost of sales and opex.
- Strategic Modelling: Build and maintain complex financial models to simulate the impact of market price wars, digital transformation initiatives, or other strategic initiatives.
To be considered, you’ll need:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or ICAEW) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 5–7 years of experience in financial analysis, ideally within a Retail B2C Industries such as FMCG, Telco, Services or any other subscriber intensive industry (Utilities, Transport or Retail).
- Local Expertise:
Understanding of Malaysian consumer credit reporting (e.g., CTOS) and local consumer protection guidelines.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (Power Query, VBA is a plus).
- Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with BI tools like Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or SQL for analyzing large subscriber datasets.
- Soft Skills: Strong business acumen to understand "Telco-speak" (e.g., EBITDA, Spectrum, Backhaul). Ability to present complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders (Engineering/Sales).
- Market Knowledge: Understanding of the Malaysian fixed broadband and mobile landscape.
